FAQ / about

I am proud to have a large selection of clients in an area with a growing coffee industry. I am happy to help it grow. I’m currently vetting potential clients before I accept work with new clients.

My name is Randy. I have been fixing espresso machines for over 20 years. I maintain a local specialty workshop in Asheville, NC that sells and supports commercial espresso and coffee equipment. I only serve local businesses and I service the equipment that I sell. I feel strongly about supporting and bolstering our local economy and keeping revenue in local circulation.

I am a proud member of a group of the Service Layer, a likeminded group of independent specialty focused technical repair companies.

See below for some FAQs .

I am not currently a client, can you fix my espresso machine?

Maybe. I don’t like onboarding new clients through emergency repair. Ideally, I would be involved with preventive maintenance first, so I know what kind of condition your equipment is in before it breaks.

Not all equipment is supportable, do you have serviceable equipment?

Do you fix home machines?

I will work on La Marzocco Linea Mini, GS3 and Slayer One Group. The equipment must be delivered to my shop for repair and it could take 1-4 months to turn around repairs. I charge a 600 minimum charge for repairs of this nature.

I don’t make house calls.

Most home equipment is tedious to support, some home equipment is unsupportable and some is downright disposable.

I am opening a new cafe, can you help me?

Yes, gladly. I can outfit your cafe with everything you need to make espresso and coffee beverages. Give me a call.

I bought my espresso machine new from an online reseller, can you install/repair/support it?

No. I support equipment that sell. I have no obligation to support any online reseller.

I bought a used machine, the seller says it worked when last used can you hook it up for me?

No. Used equipment is gamble. There is always a catch. I will accept approved espresso equipment into my shop to assess and repair before installation.

Will you match a discount that I found online?

Maybe. I offer concierge service that I feel is a premium value and will not undermine my own value or integrity to price match some private equity backed reseller venture that need to cut prices to move units.

can I call you for service but use my own parts?

No. I guarantee my work and my parts. I can’t reasonably guarantee my work if parts are of an unknown source. Selling parts is part of service. If you are able to get parts, you should be able to supply your own service.

I bought a machine directly from a manufacturer, will you install/repair it?

No. I support equipment that I sell. Manufacturers who sell direct cut me out of the revenue stream that allows me to make money to buy parts to support their equipment. I don’t support that modality of business.

What are your hours and service rates?

Service rates are listed elsewhere on this site. They change from time to time without notice.

who are your clients?

I service independently owned local cafes and roasters. I only sell equipment that I can install and service. Are you outside my service area? I can recommend a local support company to sell you equipment.

Why do you have so many weird rules?

I’m busy.
